Supergirl alumna Melissa Benoist will be the voice of heroine Teela in Masters of the Universe: Revolution, Kevin Smith’s continuation of his Masters Of The Universe: Revelation He-Man adaptation at Netflix, Mattel announced today. She takes over the role played by Sarah Michelle Gellar in the original series.
Set as the follow-up to 2021’s Revelation, Revolution finds Benoist as Teela alongside He-Man and the rest of the Masters as they struggle to save Eternia from the tangles of darkness.
“Revolution is an all-new story that focuses on the classic He-Man vs. Skeletor rivalry in a way audiences have never seen before,” Mattel said. It’s technology up against magic as He-Man and the heroic warriors face the forces of Skeletor and a deadly threat to the Planet in the next epic chapter in the battle for Eternia.
“I jumped at the opportunity to work alongside my friend, Kevin Smith and join the Revolution family as another bold and fearless heroine,” said Benoist. “I look forward to sharing the next evolution of Teela’s story with fans.”
She joins previously announced cast including Chris Wood as He-Man, Emmy nominee Mark Hamill as Skeletor, and William Shatner in a still-to-be announced role.
Masters of the Universe: Revolution is set to debut on Netflix in 2024. Mattel’s Fred Soulie, Rob David and Christopher Keenan executive produce, along with Ted Biaselli and Kevin Smith.

Masters of the Universe: Revolution has recast the heroine Teela with the star of The CW's Supergirl. The upcoming Netflix animated series is being billed as a continuation of Kevin Smith's Masters of the Universe: Revelation. That series, which premiered in 2021, provided a new sequel timeline to the iconic 1980s series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, bringing back many fan favorite characters. This includes the strapping He-Man (Chris Wood), the insidious Skeletor (Mark Hamill), and He-Man's daring protector Teela (Sarah Michelle Gellar).
Now, Mattel announces that a new actor will be stepping into the role of Teela in Masters of the Universe: Revolution. The role will be taken over by Melissa Benoist, who is best known for playing the titular Kryptonian heroine in the Arrowverse series Supergirl. Benoist is the latest actor to join the series after the legendary William Shatner, who is playing a currently undisclosed role.
Melissa Benoist is Continuing Her Fruitful Collaboration with Kevin Smith

Benoist is best known for playing Superman's cousin Supergirl, a role she held for 126 episodes across six seasons. However, she has extensive experience in genres outside the heroic realm. This includes one of her star-making roles, as new McKinley High student Marley Rose on seasons 4 and 5 of Glee, as well as dramatic roles in films like Lowriders and Damien Chazelle's Whiplash.
Her first collaboration with Smith came when he asked her to bring her superhero skills to his 2019 comedy Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. In that film, she lambasted her Arrowverse persona by playing the superhero Chronic. The weed-themed hero originally appeared in the fictional comic book Bluntman and Chronic in Smith's 1997 outing Chasing Amy.
That cameo led to another fruitful collaboration between the two in his newest film, the sequel Clerks III. With Masters of the Universe: Revolution now capping off a trilogy of projects they have worked on together, it is easy to see the throughline. Smith is calling upon her to breathe life into another iconic hero, harnessing her legacy as Supergirl yet again, just over a year after the show went off the air.
